Dates
Pre-conference fieldtrip: 22 – 29 August 2027
The trip will provide an overview of the world-class Mount Isa mineral system, blending field visits with mine visits and core viewing and lectures from domain experts.
Visits to selected IOCG, ISCG, Broken Hill Type (BHT), Skarn, and sediment hosted Cu ±Pb-Zn deposits will provide an overview of the diverse mineralisation styles hosted in the Mt Isa and Cloncurry districts. Possible visits include Mount Isa Cu and Pb-Zn, Mount Colin, Mary Kathleen, Dugald River, Ernest Henry, Eloise, Maronan, Cannington, Osborne, Starra, SWAN.
Field visits will showcase evidence for mineral system drivers, architecture, fluid interactions and structural controls including examples of magma mingling, hydrothermal vs sedimentary breccias, folding, major shear zones and faults.Short Lectures on the mineral system will be interspersed throughout, providing insignts into mineral system drivers, structural controls, footprints and ore genesis as well as deposit signatures and exploration strategies.
The fieldtrip is in part supported by the Resources Technology & Critical Minerals Trailblazer Program and supported by CSM, EGRU and CSIRO.
